New Delhi:- NDA candidate and Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan has been elected as India's 15th Vice President, defeating INDIA-Bloc candidate B Sudershan Reddy. Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes, while Reddy garnered 300 votes in the election.

Radhakrishnan brings extensive administrative experience to the role, having served as the Governor of Jharkhand in 2023 and later as the Governor of Maharashtra in July 2024. A seasoned politician, he has been a two-time Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and held key parliamentary positions, including Chairman of the Standing Committee on Textiles and member of committees on Public Sector Undertakings and Finance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Radhakrishnan’s vast experience, stating, “His dedication to public service will greatly benefit the nation.”

About CP Radhakrishnan

Born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan completed his early education locally before earning a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from VO Chidambaram College in Thoothukudi. A long-time associate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since age 16, he has been a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu, where the party has yet to secure an independent electoral victory. Radhakrishnan also served as the BJP Tamil Nadu president from 2004 to 2007.
