Gorakhpur Author Nusrat Abbasi Unveils a Gripping Debut Thriller with The Vessel

Published at the age of 52, The Vessel represents not only a personal milestone but also the culmination of a lifelong intellectual and spiritual journey.

“Publishing The Vessel feels like the culmination of a conversation I have been having with myself for years,” says Abbasi. “It is not merely a first book; it is the beginning of a series I have been building in my imagination for a long time.”

A Journey from Doubt to Discovery

Born and raised in Gorakhpur, Abbasi’s path to writing was unconventional. An alumnus of St. Paul’s School, Gorakhpur, and Aligarh Muslim University, he later pursued Advertising Management in New Delhi before establishing a successful career in branding and communications.

Yet beneath his professional accomplishments lay a deeper quest—one that would ultimately shape the foundation of The Vessel.

The novel originated from a question that challenged his understanding of faith and existence.

“At a certain point in my life, I found myself questioning everything I had been raised to believe,” Abbasi explains. “Faith, religion, the very idea of a higher power. Rather than walking away from the question, I walked deeper into it.”

That search led him into an extensive exploration of ancient civilisations, Sumerian cosmology, Vedic philosophy, religious texts, mythology, and modern theories about humanity’s origins. What began as a personal inquiry gradually evolved into an expansive fictional universe.

The result is a story that reflects both rigorous research and profound introspection.

Reimagining the Story of Human Origins

The inspiration behind The Vessel emerged from one of the oldest narratives known to humanity—the story of Adam and Eve.

What fascinated Abbasi was not simply the biblical account itself, but the striking similarities found across diverse civilisations and belief systems. Variations of creation stories appear throughout Abrahamic traditions, Hindu cosmology, Sumerian mythology, Greek legends, and other ancient cultures.

These recurring themes sparked a provocative question:

What if humanity’s origin story is far more interconnected than history has led us to believe?

Drawing from mythology, archaeology, ancient history, and speculative science, Abbasi crafted a narrative that bridges seemingly disparate traditions into a unified mystery.

A particularly powerful concept became central to the novel’s premise: “The blood remembers.”

This idea—that human DNA may carry echoes of a forgotten past—forms the emotional and scientific backbone of The Vessel.

A Thriller with Depth

At first glance, The Vessel delivers all the hallmarks of a fast-paced international thriller.

The story follows Ada Mirza, a London-based museum curator who discovers that she carries an extraordinary genetic legacy hidden within her DNA. When her path crosses once again with Zaid, a RAW operative and former lover, the pair become entangled in a dangerous conspiracy that stretches back to the dawn of human civilisation.

Together, they navigate a world of covert operations, ancient secrets, hidden organisations, and buried truths that challenge accepted history.

As the mystery unfolds, readers are taken on a journey that spans continents, cultures, and millennia.

But beneath its action-packed narrative lies a deeper exploration of identity, memory, faith, and humanity’s collective past.

“The Vessel is a thriller on the surface,” Abbasi notes. “Beneath that, it is a question.”

Where Mythology Meets Modern Suspense

One of the novel’s most distinctive strengths is its ability to seamlessly merge multiple genres.

Readers will find elements of:

• International espionage
• Ancient mysteries
• Archaeological intrigue
• Historical speculation
• Science fiction
• Philosophical inquiry

The result is a thought-provoking reading experience that appeals equally to thriller enthusiasts and readers fascinated by mythology, history, and alternative interpretations of civilisation.

Rather than providing definitive answers, the novel encourages readers to engage with uncertainty and explore possibilities beyond conventional narratives.

“I wanted readers to finish the book and find themselves looking at the world slightly differently,” says Abbasi. “Asking questions they perhaps had not thought to ask before.”

A New Chapter After a Lifetime of Storytelling

Although The Vessel marks Abbasi’s debut as a novelist, storytelling has long been central to his professional life.

For more than twenty years, he developed brands, campaigns, and communication strategies, learning how narratives influence perception and inspire action.

Today, he balances writing with managing mango orchards and fish farming operations in Gorakhpur while remaining actively involved in community development initiatives.

As Founder President of the Gorakhpur Aligs Welfare Association (GAWA), he continues to support education, career development, and community engagement inspired by the vision of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan.

These varied experiences have contributed to the rich perspectives and themes woven throughout his writing.

The Beginning of the Navah Series

For readers captivated by the mysteries of The Vessel, the journey has only just begun.

The novel serves as the opening chapter of the ambitious Navah Series, a larger narrative that will continue exploring humanity’s forgotten past and the forces shaping its future.

Abbasi has already begun developing a prequel set in ancient India, further expanding the universe introduced in the first book.

“The questions that drove me to write The Vessel remain unanswered,” he says. “If anything, the research has deepened them.”

Encouraging Writers to Tell Their Unique Stories

Abbasi’s own path to publication serves as an inspiring example for aspiring authors.

Having entered the literary world later in life, without formal literary training or industry connections, he encourages writers to embrace their individuality rather than chase trends.

“Write the book only you can write,” he advises. “Write the question you cannot answer. Write the story that makes you slightly uncomfortable to admit you are writing. And then finish it.”

It is this commitment to authenticity that gives The Vessel its distinctive voice—a novel born from genuine curiosity, relentless research, and a desire to explore some of humanity’s most enduring mysteries.
