Ravi Ghai is a distinguished figure in Mumbai’s hospitality and food industries, leading the Graviss Group, a conglomerate known for its prominent ventures. His business portfolio includes renowned brands like The Brooklyn Creamery ice cream and the iconic InterContinental Hotel on Marine Drive. Ghai’s sharp business insight has solidified his reputation as a key player in these sectors.

Recently, Ghai’s family garnered attention when his granddaughter, Saaniya Chandok, became engaged to Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar. The engagement was an intimate event, attended only by close family and friends.

Educational Background and Business Legacy

A graduate of Cornell University’s esteemed School of Hotel Administration, Ravi Ghai returned to Mumbai in 1967 to take over his father Iqbal Krishan Ghai’s business. Under his leadership, the Graviss Group expanded significantly, introducing well-known brands such as Kwality Ice Cream and transforming the Natraj Hotel into the InterContinental Hotel. Ghai also brought the Baskin-Robbins franchise to the SAARC region, broadening the group’s reach. Currently, he serves as the Non-Executive Chairman of Graviss Hospitality Ltd and holds directorships in entities like Kwality Read Estates Pvt Ltd and Perfect Livestock LLP, cementing his influence in the industry.

Family Dispute with Son, Gaurav Ghai

Despite his professional achievements, Ghai’s personal life has faced challenges. According to a report by the Free Press Journal, Ravi filed a complaint at Mumbai’s Marine Drive Police Station, accusing his son, Gaurav Ghai, of fraud, forgery, and seizing control of the Graviss Group without his consent.

Ravi alleged that these actions took place while he was receiving cancer treatment. He claimed that a supplementary Family Settlement Agreement was fraudulently executed using his forged signature, stating, “My signature was misused for the agreement.” He further noted that he was the sole owner of the Graviss Group until a business restructuring in 2001.

Claims of Betrayal

Ravi Ghai alleged that after returning from treatment abroad, his son Gaurav and daughter-in-law presented him with various business documents to sign. Trusting them during his weakened health, he signed without scrutiny. However, he claimed that by January 2025, his monthly allowance of Rs 12.5 lakh ceased, and by April, his CFO informed him that Gaurav had assumed the role of chairman and taken full control of the company.

Arbitration Over Legal Action

Although the accusations are serious, the police declined to file an FIR, classifying the issue as a family dispute better suited for arbitration than criminal proceedings. The matter remains unresolved, adding complexity to the legacy of one of Mumbai’s most prominent business families.

Net Worth and Business Ventures

The Ghai family’s wealth is tied to the Graviss Group, which operates The Brooklyn Creamery and the Baskin-Robbins franchise in India. Graviss Food Solutions Private Limited reported revenues of Rs 624 crore in FY23–24, a 20% increase from the previous year, with an authorized capital of Rs 2.23 crore and a paid-up capital of Rs 90,100. The family also owns the InterContinental Hotel under the InterContinental Hotels Group, valued globally at $18.43 billion as of August 2025. While specific estimates of Ravi Ghai’s personal net worth are not publicly available, his significant stake in Graviss Hospitality Ltd, valued at over Rs 21.4 crore as of March 2025, underscores his financial standing.
