Delhi Police Assures High Court It Will Control Abhijeet Dipke

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has once again called for a protest in the national capital. He released a video message urging people to gather with the national flag at Central Park in Connaught Place at 5 pm on 16 October. Ahead of the planned demonstration, shopkeepers from the area approached the Delhi High Court seeking a ban on the protest. The court declined to restrain Dipke or the CJP from holding the event. However, the Delhi Police assured the court that it would take all necessary steps to control and regulate the activities of Abhijeet Dipke and his organisation.

What the Police Told the High Court

During the hearing, the Additional Solicitor General informed the bench that the Delhi Police would take every possible step in accordance with the law to control and regulate the proposed protest at Connaught Place. The High Court recorded this assurance. The petition had been filed by street vendors and traders from Palika Bazar who argued that a demonstration in the heart of Central Park would severely disrupt business. Counsel for the petitioners told the court that shops had already begun shutting down and that the timing coincided with the Dussehra weekend. The judges refused to issue a restraint order against the protest but made it clear that the police must maintain law and order.

Traders’ Concerns and Claims of Heavy Losses

Business associations and vendors in Connaught Place have expressed strong opposition to the planned gathering. The Chamber of Trade and Industry wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting that permission for the CJP’s “Lehra Do Tiranga” march be denied. Traders claimed that the earlier protest on 10 October had already caused losses of around ₹2,000 crore. They argued that repeated demonstrations in the commercial hub are hurting the livelihoods of lakhs of people dependent on the area’s trade and tourism.
