PM Modi Inaugurates ESTIC 2026 at Bharat Mandapam: Top Innovations & Tech Highlights
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on October 27. The three-day event, running from October 27 to 29, brings together leading scientists, policymakers, industry leaders, deep-tech startups, and global experts under the theme “Creative Minds, Catalyzing Science, Empowering Technologies.” Organised by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) under the guidance of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, ESTIC 2026 aims to strengthen India’s science, technology, and innovation ecosystem in support of Viksit Bharat@2047.
The conclave features around 150 deep-tech startup stalls, deliberations across 12 thematic areas, and participation by three Nobel laureates. It focuses on translating scientific advances into practical applications while showcasing indigenous achievements and fostering research-to-market pathways.
Nobel Laureates and Global Scientific Leadership
Three Nobel laureates are participating in ESTIC 2026: Prof. Joachim Frank (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2017), Sir Richard J. Roberts (Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1993), and Prof. Kostya Novoselov (Nobel Prize in Physics 2010). Their plenary talks and interactions highlight cutting-edge research in areas such as cryo-electron microscopy for drug discovery and advanced materials. The presence of these global figures underscores India’s growing role as a hub for high-level scientific dialogue and collaboration.
Alongside the Nobel laureates, the event includes international award-winning speakers, young scientists, women entrepreneurs, and representatives from academia, PSUs, and R&D institutions. Parallel sessions and panel discussions explore research priorities, national capabilities, and the translation of laboratory breakthroughs into real-world solutions.

Discussions at ESTIC 2026 span 12 key thematic areas: advanced manufacturing, energy technologies, system and synthetic biology, ocean science and maritime technologies, intelligent networks and quantum communication, semiconductors and next-gen chips, agri-tech, food systems and nutrition, generative and autonomous AI, autonomous systems, physical AI and robotics, preventive medicine and advanced healthcare solutions, immersive tech (generative XR and spatial computing), and space science and technologies.
These sessions focus on India’s research priorities and pathways to scale innovations. For instance, the semiconductors track highlights indigenous chip development efforts, including contributions from DRDO, while AI and robotics sessions examine applications in manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, and logistics. The emphasis remains on moving beyond prototypes to deployable technologies that support self-reliance and economic growth.
Deep-Tech Startups and Technology Exhibition
A major attraction is the technology and innovation exhibition featuring approximately 150 deep-tech startup stalls. The exhibition showcases indigenous scientific achievements and emerging technologies with potential applications across sectors. It opens more widely to the public from the second day and includes technology demonstrations, thematic videos, documentaries, informational kiosks, and augmented and virtual reality experiences.
Startups gain opportunities to connect with investors, industry partners, and government stakeholders through B2B and B2G meetings. India’s startup ecosystem has expanded significantly, with more than half of new startups now emerging from smaller towns and cities, reflecting broader geographic reach of innovation. The exhibition and networking platforms aim to accelerate the journey of these ventures from lab to market.
Global Connect and Collaboration Focus
A new Global Connect Networking Event brings together more than 300 invited participants from academia, research institutions, and industry in India and abroad. The initiative seeks to foster international research partnerships, industry-academia collaboration, and pathways for commercialising innovations. Thirteen ministries are associated with the conclave, ensuring coordinated government support across science, technology, defence, health, agriculture, space, and other domains.
Panel discussions, including one on path-breaking science and disruptive technologies for Atmanirbhar Bharat, feature senior figures from defence, research, and policy. The overall structure prioritises actionable outcomes over standalone discussions, with organisers emphasising short- and long-term milestones that link successive editions of the conclave.
